SAME Luncheon Series – April 2019

Presentation Title: Royal Canadian Navy Sediment Cleanup and Capital Improvement in Esquimalt Harbour, Vancouver Island, Canada

Presenter: Dan Berlin, Principal, Anchor QEA, LLC

Description:  Esquimalt Harbor, located at the south end of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, is the primary Pacific homeport for Canada’s Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). The Canadian Department of National Defense has been cleaning up sediment contamination in the harbor from almost two centuries of civilian and military industrial activity. The cleanup and redevelopment program has posed a number of significant challenges since it is a working harbor and is the home of indigenous peoples. The presentation will describe the challenges of the program and perspectives of working for the Canadian federal government.
